Charging PSP via USB cable
Charging PSP series console by usb port on computer is popular for psp fans.
But I check some threads on forum, it seems some one have problem regarding charging by usb cable,fail to chargem or can not fully charge.
Do SONY encourage to charge PSP via USB cable or SONY Officialy support charge by wall charger?
So,what up? Let check and analysize it step by step:
Step 1: Checking USB ports on computer
First of all,we need to recognize that differences between the front usb ports and rear usb ports of desktop computer housing
A. Front USB ports on the desktop housing:
The USB ports on front housing were connected to the computer via the connection cable to the USB pin on the motherboard. The following situation will cause something wrong when of front usb ports
- Wrong cable or poor quality cable
- Poor quality connection pins
- Cable aging for old computer
Above situation will cause the front usb ports’ power supply problems.lead to the larger internal resistance and not enough voltage output.
So,some users will meet the problem: computer stop when transmit the files or can not find the files etc…
B.Rear USB ports on the desktop housing
The UBS ports on the rear side of the desktop housing are connected to the mainboard directly via PCI card.the mainboard supply stable voltage and current to the ports. It will avoid some problems due to weak output voltage and current. That is why some special card need to connect to the rear USB ports instead of front USB ports.
Step 2. USB cable
A. USB plug coating
It is out of question,in the view of electric conductivity,goldcoated plug is better than other metals. So the best choice is the goldcoated plug usb cable,not just normal USB male plug form comuster, but the small plug to PSP USB port and PSP power jack
B. Cable and length
Usually, the USB cable have two plugs for data transmit,and some USB cable ,so call 2 in 1 cable have one extra port for power supply, also call 3 plug usb cable. For 2 in 1 usb cable,if just link the data cable and power supply cable together simply (always find on cheaper cable), it will cause current instable. Actually,the data transmit and power supply should be splited via special circuit,like the red round part on the image.
By the way, longer data cablw will lead to the lower voltage,so the best length of usb cable is less than 2 meter.
Many users like to buy cheapest usb data cable for psp,and sometimes the cabe can not work properly.above situation maybe you need to conside before buying.
Step 3 . Battery problem
A. PSP Battery lock
For this situation,most caused by the unstable voltage of USB ports
B. PSP battery lifetime
For original PSP battery,USB charging is no side effect of the battery lifttime,since original battery have protection of over charging.( battery lock also cause by self protection of over charging)
If your PSP battery is not original (many PSP battery which sell online are OEM one,) better charge via wal charger intead of USB charging.
Now,back to the topic, the PSP changing via USB port function is selectable way for PSP charging,otherwise,SONY will close this functionof USB port
Final, if you want to charge psp via USB ports, the keypoint are: rear USB ports on the computer housing, good quality USB cable and original PSP battery.
